At NW AutoFix in Aloha, we can work on a number of makes and models, and we can get to the bottom of your automotive issue quickly. If you have an Asian or American vehicle, we can repair it!
In this post, we’ll look at five common car problems, and what can be the cause behind them.
1. Spark Plug Failure
The spark plugs in your car are there to help your engine ignite, which burns the fuel and propels your car forward. If the spark plugs become worn or damaged, they can have a hard time performing their intended function. Even if it’s just one plug that isn’t functioning, your car could experience less power, which can lead to poor gas mileage and performance. Our certified mechanics can check your spark plugs, ignition coil, and everything else associated with your car’s ignition system.
2. Catalytic Converter Replacement
The catalytic converter is a part of your vehicle’s exhaust system, and it’s there to neutralize carbon monoxide and other hazardous compounds that are created as your car burns fuel. They also help your car get better gas mileage, and they’re designed to last for the life of your vehicle. However, there are things that can cause the converter to fail, such as damage to other parts of the exhaust system. Since it’s on the bottom of the car, the converter can also be damaged if you hit something. A new part from the original manufacturer can be pricey, but since it’s such an important part of your vehicle, it’s often worth it.
3. Thermostat Replacement
If you’ve ever had a car overheat, then you know how important a working thermostat can be. The thermostat helps regulate the temperature of the coolant in your engine, and it opens and closes based on your engine temperature. If it’s faulty, it might fail to open as your engine gets warmer, which can lead to overheating and other performance issues. An overheated engine can be a very serious issue, and it could leave you stranded on the side of the road, far from home. Our crew knows how to check your thermostat, and we can find the proper replacement part for your vehicle.
4. Airflow Sensor Repair
Your engine needs air in order to burn the fuel in the combustion chamber, and the mass airflow sensor is what regulates the amount of air that enters in the engine. It does this so that there is an optimal ratio of air/fuel mixture, which helps your car experience peak performance. If your engine seems to be struggling to run, or you’re getting very poor gas mileage, the culprit may be the mass airflow sensor. We can take a look under the hood to see if that’s the case, and provide the necessary replacement part for your make and model.
5. Oxygen Sensor Problems
The oxygen sensor is located near the combustion chamber, and its job is to detect uncombusted oxygen in the exhaust. If your check engine light comes on, you’ve noticed an increase in exhaust emissions, or your car struggles to start, then chances are your oxygen sensor is faulty. After 60,000 miles or so, it’s a good idea to have the sensor replaced to keep your car running at optimal performance.
